Description

Object name / Title: Denomination: statue; base of statue Use title: Winged Victory of Samothrace
Description / Features: Nike (chitôn, belt, himation, half-drape, wing, deployed, posed, on); base (shaped like a ship: bow, landed, on); plinth (rectangular) Condition of the work: statue: minus the head and neck, the two arms, the left part and the back of the bust, the right wing, the right foot, the left calf and the left foot, the bottom of the drapery at the back splinters (drapery). Base: minus all the ends of the blocks at the front - some gaps in the other blocks - minus a block in the center of the upper seat at the back (kept at the Samothrace Museum) Restoration: statue: redone (left breast, area of the belt, back of the bust, right wing, in plaster) -modern assembly (metal frame of the wings) -glued (right knee, numerous fragments of drapery and of the left wing) -restoration (2002). Base: redone (front of the upper seat) -glued (several blocks) -completed (gaps, in cement and plaster) -full restoration (2014, block between the statue and the base removed)
